Who is Lee Soo-man, you might ask? Well, there’s a reason why the K-pop industry knows him as the “King of K-pop”. He’s the founder of SM Entertainment, which is now one of the largest purveyors of South Korean entertainment media in the world. In fact, Soo-man is one of the pioneers of the initial Korean Wave (or Hallyu) in the 1990’s that brought South Korean media like K-pop, K-dramas, Korean films, etc. into the global mainstream culture. Yes, that means you can credit (or blame) him for the popularity of shows like Squid Game and movies like Parasite.
It’s because of how important he is to mainstream Korean media that easily explains why we’re getting a documentary all about him.
