Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving” gives us a look at Sebastian being someone else’s butler for a change. Specifically: Sieglinde Sullivan. Regardless of who he’s serving though (and what he’s actually doing in the meantime), Sebastian looks like he’ll never stop being one hell of a butler.

Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving”: Synopsis
Alas, Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- has only recently begun its airing. In fact, Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving” has only just made its debut two days ago as of this writing. Thus, here’s the official synopsis from Crunchyroll to give you an idea of what’s going on without too much in the way of spoilers below:
“Sebastian starts serving Sullivan as her butler. Meanwhile, Ciel seems to have become a different person.”
Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving”: The Good

The story of Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving” continues to captivate me, as does the rest of this anime. Mostly because of how complex the story of this episode is. Ostensibly, this episode is mostly a light-hearted story of Sebastian serving a young lady instead of a young master this time around. However, it’s so much more than that. We get a look into Ciel’s backstory, which fans of the manga already know what it’s foreshadowing.
We even get a look at Finny’s backstory, and it only raises even more questions about who (or what) Ciel’s gardener actually is. Alas, manga knowledge is useless here, as Yana Toboso has not yet revealed his full backstory yet. Still, the tidbits we do get are fascinating, and that tidbit is part of why this episode’s story is amazing.
Of course, enhancing that story is the incredible animation work from CloverWorks. Their animation team continues to put feature length anime film levels of animaton quality into this episode. Seriously, when you’re busy admiring the life-accurate reflections on a metal spoon, you know you’re getting good animation here. Even the food looks amazing despite it being from a distance. Heck, it’s better than some animes’ closeups of food.
Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving”: The Bad

Alas, if you’re looking for bloody action, Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 4 “His Butler, Serving” isn’t for you. This entire episode is more of a mystery and intrigue story. Albeit, there is a moment of bloody action in Finny’s backstory. However, we don’t get to see the action itself, and it’s definitely played more for horror than anything else. If you want bloody and/or intense action, then might I suggest watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kaiju No. 8, DDDD, DAN DA DAN, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II, Zenshu, Blue Box, and/or Solo Leveling? Those anime should have more than enough action to satisfy your inner action junkie, at least until Black Butler gets to one of its more action-packed moments.
