Shogun is coming back in 2026 for Season 2. FX Networks announced the news this morning. Social media cheered for more of the acclaimed series. Shogun Season 1 was a critical and fan-darling. Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis are going to be Executive Producers for Shogun Season 2. It’s going to be wild to see this new chapter.

Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks actually just wrapped the writers’ room for Season 2. Shogun’s next installment will be an original story following the events of James Clavell’s beloved novel. FX Network noted that Shogun was the most-viewed program in the history of the channel. Shogun’s gaudy numbers created interest with the filmmakers, fans and cast to get another season done. 18 Emmy Awards is kind of hard to argue with!

Shogun Returns For Season 2 in 2026

FX Networks catches everyone up on the events leading to S2:  “In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.”

“Part two of Shōgun is set ten years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”
