Sitting down with Brandon Davis of Phase Hero, Kyle Soller talked about his arc as Syril Karn in Andor.

He was asked about his death in the most recent block of episodes (episode 8) and how he said goodbye to the series.

“I thought it was really brave, the way that they constructed season 2 in the time jumps and the arcs of all the characters. When I read it, I was really excited. I was moved, of course, but I felt like they were shooting for something that was really exceptional and very sophisticated, actually.

And then when I watched it back, I just fucking wept. I just cried because, as you said, I mean, maybe different for us because we’ve been in it. But even as an outsider, looking at the sophistication of storytelling and the blossoming of intimacy with each one of these characters relationships and how this just reveals the sacrifices that they’ve made and the cost of it all.

So, when I read it, I was like, wow, that’s really good. When I watched it, I was genuinely blown away.”

His co-star and on-screen love interest Denise Gough had this to say about the arc.

“Yeah, because we don’t see everything. You know, I get to watch as an audience. I get to watch everything as an audience, even what I’ve done. There’s something about watching it from here as opposed to watching it through… like, seeing Kyle or seeing Catherine, or whoever I was working with. When you step outside and you’re no longer in a character and you just watch it as, ‘Oh my God, these people…’ It was devastating.”

Andor season two is already among the best Star Wars projects on TV and the season isn’t over yet. The final block of episodes drops next Tuesday on Disney+.
