Tyler Perry’s Straw is coming to Netflix in a few weeks. The movie releases on the streamer June 6. Tyler Perry’s Straw stars Taraji P. Henson and Teyana Taylor. Those two actresses team with Sherri Shepherd to tell the story of a mother on the verge of her breaking point. 

TUDUM actually talked to Perry about his latest movie. The filmmaker was very open about the human struggles at the heart of this one. There are a ton of people struggling out there right now and Straw might speak to a bunch of viewers that recognize that fact. Check out what he had to say right here.

Perry explained, “She’s just trying to survive, just trying to be a great mother to her daughter, and then the circumstances in her life cause her to be in this situation. I think that a lot of people around the world, no matter if you’re a Black woman or not, will be able to relate to that feeling of, ‘I’m at my last straw.’”

Netflix describes the upcoming project: “A single mother’s world unravels in chaos as her day goes from bad to worse to catastrophic as she struggles to care for her ill daughter. Pushed to the brink by a world that seems indifferent to her existence, she’s forced to confront impossible choices in a society that offers her no safety net.”
