The upcoming film Lost in Starlight certainly looks like an anime film to the casual observer. However, it may not qualify for the exact definition of “anime film”. In fact, if you listen closely, you will notice that you hear not Japanese, but Korean. Yes, that’s right. This particular animated film is entirely Korean in production, featuring Han Ji-won as the director, as well as co-writing with Kang Hyun-joo. It’s even Korean in terms of voice acting, with Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung voicing Nan-young and Jay respectively. In fact, you can listen to their voices in the official trailer Netflix posted on YouTube below:
However, listening to the film only in its native Korean may not be enough for some people. It can be difficult to pay attention to what’s happening while trying to read English subtitles at the same time. Thankfully, there will be an alternative option if you can’t do that. Netflix is proud to announce that there will be an English dub of Lost in Starlight. Said English dub will feature the voices of Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Nan-young, and Justin H. Min as Jay. Alas, there is no English dub trailer available on YouTube for me to point to. You will just have to imagine what their voices sound like until Netflix gets around to posting that trailer.

Honestly, Lost in Starlight is a new one for me. Seriously, this is the first I’ve heard of this not-quite-anime film, and yet it already looks quite intriguing. Almost like an animated Interstellar in some ways, but with a heavy emphasis on romance instead. I shall certainly await its eventual arrival on Netflix. Fortunately, that won’t be long now, since it will make that debut on May 30, 2025. As of this writing, that’s only just over two weeks away. Thus, we won’t have long to wait to see it.
