Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 8 “His Butler, Furious” is when things start to unravel for our Emerald Witch. The masquerade is falling, and none of the ones in on the masquerade seems to care that it has fallen. No one save for the Phantomhive Manor folks, who now have an extremely vested interest in getting the Emerald Witch to get back up on her own feet…metaphorically, that is. All while causing maximum destruction to their enemies as possible.

Synopsis
Alas, Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- is still an ongoing anime series. In fact, Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 8 “His Butler, Furious” only just made its airing and streaming (aka. simulcast) debut on May 24, 2025. Thus, here’s the official synopsis from Crunchyroll to give you an idea of what’s going on without too much in the way of spoilers below:
“After learning everything there is to know about the mystery, Ciel presses Sullivan to come to a decision.”
Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 8 “His Butler, Furious”: The Good
There’s really no doubt that the story of Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 8 “His Butler, Furious” is what’s keeping me thoroughly entertained throughout the entirety of the episode. Mostly because this is when the anime finally reaches its bloody action-packed glory. I’m dead serious here. People have their necks cut open, their heads get chopped off, and/or they suffer the horrific effects of their own weaponry. This is of course after they tried to use that same weaponry on a demonic butler, with predictably unfortunate effects…for them. In particular, the weapon’s creator herself suffers a most gruesome and fitting end in this episode. All while showing just how much Sebastian is a hell of a butler. It’s this dark and bloody action that action junkies will just love to death.
Of course, it’s not just the action that’s the only great thing about this episode. It’s also the dark drama, mostly brought about by the heapings of trauma Sieglinde Sullivan (voiced by Rie Kugimiya, and Sarah Wiedenheft in English dub) is going through. Her entire world has basically crumbled around her, revealing itself to all be an illusion designed to manipulate her. You can really tell in this episode that all she wants to do is curl up into a ball and cry her eyes out. Heck, you can feel an intense urge to give her a blankie, plushie, and a mug-ful of triple hot chocolate for her troubles. Alas, she’s in a life or death situation, so what she needs is the will to get up and run…metaphorically, since her bound feet aren’t really up to the task.
Funnily enough, it’s Ciel (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto, and Brina Palencia in English dub) who gives her the pep talk she needs to keep going, and this is Ciel we’re talking about. He doesn’t give pep talks to anyone, period. I guess it’s just a sign of how much he genuinely likes the Emerald Witch that he’s willing to go this far to get her to live…either that, or he’s being a very loyal watchdog for Queen Victoria. You decide.
And of course, CloverWorks are at it again with their stellar animation. This time, they dance to the beat of violence and destruction, portrayed in some very well-animated glory. As it turns out: well-animated fire is actually gorgeous to look at.
Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 8 “His Butler, Furious”: The Bad
Alas, for some viewers, even the level of violence and destruction in Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 8 “His Butler, Furious” may not be enough for them. Or maybe you just want more of this? In that case, you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kaiju No. 8, DDDD, DAN DA DAN, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II, Zenshu, Blue Box, Solo Leveling, and/or even some episodes of Apocalypse Hotel. Those anime should have more than enough action and/or blood to satisfy you until the next episode of Black Butler, which I know from being a fan of the manga will have some action-packed moments ahead.
