This week, fans can take a trip back to Berk with How to Train Your Dragon’s live-action remake and experience one of the most refreshing romantic comedies of the year with The Materialists. Not to mention all that stuff streaming at the house. It’s That Hashtag Show’s read of What We’re Watching this weekend and without further ado, let’s get to it!

So, how many times have you read the words “live-action remake” this year alone? Never fear, Dreamworks has brought How to Train Your Dragon to life with flourish this weekend. Yes, Hiccup and Toothless’s new big screen adventure feels incredibly similar to the animated feature that its based on. But, it also captures a ton of the heart that made the original such a juggernaut in the first place. Shout out to Mason Thames for feeling just like the animated hero.

The Materialists – In Theaters Friday

Now, for the grown-ups! Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal star in this romantic comedy with a defined pedigree. A matchmaker finds herself in the middle of her ex and a potential perfect match. Sparks fly in this one. If you’re like me, and you enjoy gorgeous people, this is a great time at the theater for sure. The Rom-Com resurgence continues and we couldn’t be happier.

Get Away – Streaming on Shudder

Nick Frost is doing the horror comedy thing again with Get Away. His character Richard takes his family on a Sweedish holiday. They arrive and the vibes in this little island village are off. If you love something like Shaun of the Dead, there’s probably a lot to love about Get Away. Shudder’s always got something for the horror fans.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 – Streaming on Netflix

A Netflix favorite is back for another season. Season 2 ended with Georgia getting arrested at her wedding, and things do not improve immediately. The Millers are tasked with sifting through the wreckage of a day that was supposed to be perfect. Meanwhile, Ginny has to figure out what’s lurking in her mother’s past while trying to navigate a new normal with the family unit.

Presence – Streaming on Hulu

Lucy Liu and Chris Sullivan star in this supernatural thriller. Yeah, moving into a new house is scary enough. But, what if the home has something even more sinister afoot than bad paint! It’s always interesting to see what Steven Soderbergh is cooking and this was his offering from last year. Finally available to stream this week.

Ocean with David Attenborough – Streaming on Disney+

Sea Lions of the Galapagos.
Sea Lions of the Galapagos.

There’s something about the water that just calls to us on a primitive level. Under those waves, there’s just a lot of mystery. David Attenborough is a gold star documentary watch. So, him narrating some natural beauty and peeking at National Geographic’s incredibly detailed cameras? Let’s freaking go.

Mountainhead – Streaming on HBO Max

Succession’s Jesse Armstrong is behind the camera this time! Mountainhead sees a bunch of billionaires heading to the mountains. Unfortunately for them, things get a bit chaotic when a global crisis strands them up top. What happens when you’re already disconnected from reality and that only intensifies? Steve Carell and Ramy Youssef is all you had to say to me.

Adults – Streaming on Hulu/FX

A very smart person has already made the case that we’re constantly looking for the next Friends on TV. Adults is the latest entry in that “friends in the city, slice of life” dramadey. NYC isn’t ready for Samir, Paul, Billie, Issa and Anton. It’s eight episodes of relatable trials and tribulations, and some really good TV to boot!
