Darn, who knew animated whiskey can make me tear up?

As always, Apocalypse Hotel Ep. 5 “Provide Unlimited Hospitality in Limited Time” provides us with a most unusual yet entertaining story that makes it this episode’s best feature. Who knew that a story about making whiskey could be such an oddly entertaining and emotional journey? And yet, Shigeru Murakoshi pulls off that story quite well, down to the exact process of making whiskey from scratch. Once the comedy has passed, it has that kind of somber atmosphere to it that will make you too want to get a drink. All with an in media res-style opening to boot.

And of course, CygamesPictures and their animation continues to enhance that story with their amazing animation quality. This quality is especially notable when the cast are drinking their whiskey. Seriously, this episode contains some of the most beautifully animated whiskey I’ve seen since Bartender: Glass of God. You can see the light reflect through it in ways that only whiskey can accomplish. Truly, this entire episode, from the writing to the visuals, makes me want to grab a nice tumbler of whiskey to sip along with the cast.

Ain’t nothing wrong with the whiskey here.

Alas, if you’re looking for an action-packed anime to top the previous episode, Apocalypse Hotel Ep. 5 “Provide Unlimited Hospitality in Limited Time” isn’t it. This is a much more quiet and emotional episode for the thinkers out there. It’s more of an episode to sip hard liquor over rather than one to guzzle down cheap beer to.

Honestly, if you want that, then I’ll suggest checking out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaKaiju No. 8DDDDDAN DA DANSword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online IIZenshuBlue BoxSolo Leveling, and/or Black Butler. Those anime should contain more than enough blood and/or action to satisfy your inner action junkie’s desire for the beer of anime.
