Witch Watch Ep. 8 “Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Superhero Show~ / Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Side Job~” is another vignette episode, but this time starring Kanshi Kazamatsuri. In fact, it stars him in a pair of wildly contrasting scenarios. First he gets a heartfelt episode, and then he gets hell. Regardless though, he seems to think getting a job in general is hell, and who can blame him?

Synopsis

The hell is partially her fault, but mostly not.

Alas, Witch Watch is still an ongoing anime series. In fact, Witch Watch Ep. 8 “Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Superhero Show~ / Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Side Job~” only just made its debut on May 25, 2025. Thus, we shall be giving you the official synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll (you can also watch it on Netflix and Hulu) to tease the story without too many spoilers below:

“Kanshi cried as he clung to Morihito. And that’s because Kanshi immediately blew away his allowance and can’t pay the monthly living expenses to the Otogi household. And so, Morihito hands him a flyer for a hero show for hire being held at Akebono Park.”

Witch Watch Ep. 8 “Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Superhero Show~ / Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Side Job~”: The Good

It’s definitely the story of Witch Watch Ep. 8 “Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Superhero Show~ / Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Side Job~” that deserves a shoutout. Mostly because it’s all about the ups and downs of Kanshi’s attempt at being an adult, and I say “attempt” with a pair of big quotation marks. As you can tell in this episode, he at least tries to be an adult, but ends up failing in the most hilarious of ways. At least some of it is hilariously painful. The latter part of that term actually more applies to the second vignette. On the surface, it would seem like the setup for Kanshi being the target of some magical chaos, which due to how he basically inflicted it on himself should result in no small amount of schadenfreude comedy.

However, this particular vignette actually delves more into drama and horror rather than comedy. It basically depicts the horrifically accurate consequences of what happens if you have magic that speeds up your own personal time. No spoilers for those who haven’t watched it yet, but let’s just say that even though Kanshi inflicted it upon himself, you do still feel a good deal of sympathy for his circumstances, and are quite happy when he finally goes back to normal…only to laugh again at the logical consequences of him having adapted to his abnormal circumstances. It’s the way this episode toys with your emotions like this that shows off how good a writer Kenta Shinohara is.

And as for the animation, it’s honestly not too bad nowadays. Not least of which is because a lot of the animation in this episode is fairly experimental, courtesy of Kanshi doing some outlandish maneuvers in the first vignette, and then moving at a blur in the second. As it turns out, when Bibury’s animators are allowed to experiment, they can do some pretty neat stuff.

Witch Watch Ep. 8 “Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Superhero Show~ / Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Side Job~”: The Bad

Alas, the mood whiplash in Witch Watch Ep. 8 “Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Superhero Show~ / Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries ~The Side Job~” might be a bit of a turn-off for some people. Wanted to see some comedy? Oh, you suddenly have a weirdly serious drama going on. If you’re not a big fan of that, then this episode is probably not something you want to watch.

Even leaving aside that though, the action in this episode is geared much more for comedy rather than anything else. There’s not a trace of blood to be found. Heck, the action is so over-the-top that you can’t take it seriously. If you want serious action, then you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaKaiju No. 8DDDDDAN DA DANSword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online IIZenshuSolo Leveling, Black Butler, and/or even a few episodes of Apocalypse Hotel. Those anime should haver more than enough action to satisfy your inner action junkie.
