Ironheart star Dominique Thorne says that she received Robert Downey Jr.’s blessing after filming the series. Marvel Studios is coming off of Thunderbolts* and Ironheart is next up on the list. Series lead Dominique Thorne spoke to Empire Magazine about bringing Riri Williams back to the MCU. She mentioned the Iron Man star co-signing what they made during the conversation.
“Robert Downey Jr and I spoke just after we wrapped, and he shared some very lovely words about my journey,” Thorne explained. “He told me how excited he was and that he’s rooting for it, too. I literally got two thumbs up. It’s really reassuring to know you’re not embarrassing Iron Man.”

Thorne has been waiting a while for this Disney+ series to debut. Hearing that Ironman himself gave his stamp of approval is just a wonderful touch. With Downey back in the fold over at Marvel Studios, it’s interesting to wonder just what else is going on with Ironheart on Disney+. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long to find out!
Ironheart Star Talked to Robert Downey Jr.
Iron Man has been a popular topic across Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the MCU. The world of characters mourns the loss of that iconic Avengers lineup. But, Riri and the other younger heroes molded themselves on people like Captain America and Iron Man. It will be interesting to see if they ever get to share the screen with these older characters in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
Here’s how Marvel describes the upcoming series: “Set after the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Marvel Television’s “Ironheart” pits technology against magic when Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne)—a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka “The Hood” (Anthony Ramos).”
