Today is New Comic Book Day, so that means new comic book reviews. This week, we get our first issue of the new Intergalactic action epic, Blood & Thunder. Created by writer Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve), artist E.J. Su (Tech Jacket), colorist MSassyK (Gotham Academy), letterer Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS), and co-creator Robert Kirkman (InvincibleThe Walking Dead, Void Rivals); Blood & Thunder #1 introduces us to the bounty hunting team of  Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe and her cantankerous talking gun, Thunder. They might be good at bringing in the bad guys, but things are about to get deadly. You can check out my non-spoiler review below.

Blood & Thunder #1

Set in a far future where Earth has integrated alien species into a new society, Blood & Thunder plays by a whole new set of rules…and a whole load of new crimes to solve.

Bounty hunter Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe and her cantankerous talking gun, Thunder, are the best there is at bringing in the bad guys. However, when the galaxy’s most dangerous criminal breaks out of prison, Blood’s hunt delivers her down a path that will unlock secrets about her past, present, and future… and that’s when things get REALLY BAD.

Blood & Thunder #1 – The Review

Like always, thank you for checking out another one of my Nerdy Vet reviews. For those not familiar with my reviews, I like to follow what I call the three Ss: Simple, Short, and Spoiler-Free. Before we get into this review, I would like to thank Skybound for sending an advance copy of Blood & Thunder #1 to review.

Blood & Thunder #1 is different from my usual reads, but I am glad I got a chance to read it. Before we were introduced to the main character Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe, writer Benito Cereno does a good job setting up the story for us. What I mean by that is you pretty much know what is going to happen in that prison as soon as you start reading. After that setup, we then get an action-packed introduction to the Bounty Hunter Blood and her gun Thunder. But now that the introductions are over and we’ve seen the skillsets of Blood and Thunder, you know what their next mission will be after you finish the comic.

Blood & Thunder

Let’s not forget about the creative art team. Artist E.J. Su (Tech Jacket), colorist MSassyK (Gotham Academy), and letterer Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS) brought the story to life with their amazing work on every page. The art and colors brought out the feelings and action on each page, making the story even better. Also, the text was perfect. What I mean by that is it was easy to read and follow.

Blood & Thunder #1 is a good first issue origin story that is making me want more. It had just the right amount of introductions, drama, action, and suspense. If you are a fan of sci-fi space stories, bounty hunters, and killer aliens, this comic is a must-read for you. I cannot wait for issue #2
