Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories–Codebreaker #1

Poe Dameron, ace Resistance pilot, and his droid companion BB-8 are sent to investigate a piece of First Order tech used to decode Resistance messages. Standing between them and their objective is an infamous TIE fighter pilot. Can Poe out-fly his enemy, or will the mission go down in flames before it begins?

Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories–Codebreaker #1 – The Review

Thank you for checking out another one of my Nerdy Vet reviews. For those not familiar with my reviews, I like to follow what I call the three Ss: Simple, Short, and Spoiler-Free. So here we go. First, I want to thank Dark Horse Comics for the early access to Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories–Codebreaker #1. This story brings back two familiar faces, Poe Dameron and BB-8. Writer Ethan Sacks wasted no time in getting the action going in this series.

Without spoiling too much, Sacks did a great job giving us the Poe we know from the movies, arrogant and brave. Because of this, the story is even better, especially when he has to face a TIE fighter pilot who looks to have the same flying skills as him. What I also like about this story is that while on their mission, Poe and BB-8 are surprised and confused about what they have found. That’s how I will leave this part, you’ll have to read the first issue to find out more.

Not only did Sacks give us a great start to this series, but the creative art team of Marc Yarza, Jose Marzan Jr., and Comicraft did an amazing job on the art. The colors and details looked great. From the look of each character to the details of each scene, the art team helped bring this story to life on every page. The text was good as well. But while it was easy to follow, some panels seemed like there was too much dialogue in them, and it kind of took away from the art.

If you are a Star Wars comic book fan and are looking for a new story to start, then Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories–Codebreaker #1 is a must-read for you. I know I can’t wait to see what issue #2 brings us.
