Love, Death + Robots is currently taking the world by storm once again with the recent release of Vol. 4. With that recentmost volume getting universal acclaim from critics, it’s no wonder that the anthology series is getting so popular again. In fact, it’s not the series itself that’s getting attention. It’s also the cast and crew behind the series.

On this occasion, creator Tim Miller is getting quite a bit of that attention. It’s why we here at That Hashtag Show are proud to have conducted an interview with Miller during the red carpet premiere of Love, Death + Robots Vol. 4. In fact, you can watch the full interview on YouTube, and below:

Complete with a special Love, Death + Robots shirt for him to boot.

Love, Death + Robots Vol. 4: Tim Miller | THS Interview Highlights

During the interview, Tim Miller said quite a few points to note.

“I hope we’re bringing adult animation into the limelight where it needs to be.”

Certainly, we hope so too. The state of adult animation in NA and the West in general is…not great. There’s still the perception that adult animation is childish and immature, limited only to rude humor in the vein of Family Guy. However, the success of Love, Death + Robots Vol. 4 might hopefully change that. Yes, it does have some rude humor in it, but it’s not the only thing in it. There is real heartfelt emotion in the volume that marks it as different, and hopefully, this might change that perception.

“Everybody at the beginning said: ‘Is there a theme here?’ Are you trying to…make the stories connect in any way?’ And everybody wanted that, and I’m like ‘Absolutely fucking not’. I don’t want them to connect because I don’t want to have to choose a story because it goes with another one. I want to choose it for its own coolness.”

Now we have an insight into the mind of Tim Miller, and it does make sense. A long, interconnected narrative might take away from the anthology, and even start to override the other stories in Love, Death + Robots Vol. 4. This way, we can get the full impact of each story on its own merits.

“I have 1300 short story books on my Kindle, and I’ve read 200 of them. So there’s no way I’m running out of stories.”

Alas, those of us who extensively use AO3 and FanFiction.net know how Tim Miller feels here.

“‘Sonnie’s Edge’, I t hink, would make a great feature…the world that ‘Spider Rose’ and ‘Swarm’ come out of…there’s a novel called ‘Schismatrix’: one of my favorite novels of all time…there’s a lot of source material here that could be bigger.”

A look into possible future projects Tim Miller might take on? We can only dream here.
