Amazon Prime Video is diving into the world of young adult mystery with its upcoming series adaptation of We Were Liars, based on the bestselling novel by E. Lockhart. The eight-episode thriller is set to premiere on June 18, 2025, and promises a gripping blend of family secrets, psychological intrigue, and haunting revelations.
Set on the Sinclair family’s private island off the coast of Massachusetts, We Were Liars centers on Cadence Sinclair Eastman, the eldest grandchild of the powerful and wealthy Harris Sinclair. Every summer, Cadence reunites with her cousins Johnny and Mirren and family friend Gat Patil. Together, they form a tight-knit group known as “the Liars.” However, during “Summer Fifteen,” a mysterious accident leaves Cadence with memory loss and lingering trauma.
Two years later, Cadence returns to the island, desperate for answers about what really happened. As buried truths begin to surface, the seemingly perfect Sinclair façade starts to crack.

The cast features Gossip Girl’s Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence, alongside Shubham Maheshwari (Gat), Esther McGregor (Mirren), Joseph Zada (Johnny), and David Morse as family patriarch Harris Sinclair. Supporting roles include Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Candice King as the Sinclair sisters.
Behind the scenes, the series is helmed by Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico), with E. Lockhart also on board as executive producer to ensure the adaptation stays true to the book’s emotional core.
