The previously rumored Yellowstone spin-off featuring Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) has been officially confirmed by CBS. The series currently has the working title Y: Marshals. It will follow the events of Yellowstone Season 5, and will find Kayce joining an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. The spin-off is set to air on Sundays at 9 P.M. on CBS. In a change from previous series under the Yellowstone umbrella, Marshals is not a sole creation by Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan will be attached to the series as an executive producer but is not writing or directing the new series. About Y: Marshals

We will see Kayce Dutton (Grimes) “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

Y: Marshals

Limited information about the series is currently available outside of the official logline. And there is no indication of what will push Kayce to once again pick up a badge, after leaving the badge behind was such a personal drive for him in Yellowstone. There are also no details on casting, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) make a return in some capacity.

According to the report from Variety, Y: Marshals is written, directed, and executive produced by Spencer Hudnut (SEAL TEAM). The spin-off will premiere in mid-2026 after filming this summer.

Future Of Yellowstone

The Yellowstone franchise continues to expand, with the announcement of Y: Marshals joining an already packed lineup of upcoming spin-offs, including The Madison, Dutton Ranch, and 1944. Notably, while the upcoming spin-offs are slated to premiere on Paramount Network and Paramount+, Y: Marshals will debut on CBS. It will be interesting to see if this is a one-off or a focused shift aimed at reaching broader network audiences.

Yellowstone

It is also of note that Y: Marshals marks the first Yellowstone series that is not directly created and written by Taylor Sheridan. This transition may indicate Sheridan’s intention to gradually loosen his grip on the creative reins. This could potentially bring in fresh perspectives and allow new writers and producers to influence the Yellowstone universe. The introduction of Spencer Hudnut, raises both excitement and curiosity regarding how this change might influence the franchise’s direction, tone, and storytelling style. As the Yellowstone franchise ventures into new territories, audiences will soon see whether this enriches the storytelling or if the franchise risks losing its distinctive voice. Ultimately, the true impact of these changes will become clear once these series begin to premiere.
