Could more MCU projects be on the horizon for Jake Schreier? It looks like the Thunderbolts* director may helm another Marvel film in the future.
According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has its sights set on Schreier to direct the upcoming X-Men movie.
At this time, the director is in early talks with the studio to work on X-Men. It’s not a done deal just yet, but Deadline says Schreier is considered their top choice for the role.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige produces the film, with Michael Lesslie writing the script.
Schreier’s recent Marvel feature, Thunderbolts*, premiered just last week. It’s received pretty widespread praise from both critics and audiences alike. It’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and currently holds a 94% score from audiences.
Historically, Marvel has often worked “in house” for their tentpole films, with many directors working on multiple projects within the MCU. The Russo brothers landed Avengers: Infinity War and End Game following their work on the Captain America sequels; more recently, Matt Shakman landed Fantastic Four: The First Steps after the success of WandaVision. So, while Schreier hasn’t been officially confirmed by Marvel as the director of X-Men, it does seem like he would be a likely candidate for the studio.
You can catch Schreier’s current Marvel flick Thunderbolts* in theaters now. Meanwhile, check back to THS for more updates on X-Men and the MCU.
