Christopher Nolan to Make The Odyssey with Only IMAX Cameras

Christopher Nolan is presenting The Odyssey in IMAX. He’s really aiming to impress by making the movie the first film shot entirely on IMAX cameras. Deadline reports that the beloved filmmaker is set to make The Odyssey in IMAX as big of an event as Sinners was this year. (The movie drops in 2026.)

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond talked to Deadline about Nolan issuing the company a challenge. Basically, “go big or go home.” They were only too happy to take him up on such an ambitious project.

“‘I’m going to give you a challenge. If you can figure out how to solve these problems, I’m going to make Odyssey 100% film with film with IMAX cameras’, and we’ve solved his problems,” he told the press at Cannes. “So, this will be the first film ever, at least filmed 100% with IMAX cameras.”

Who Will Be There For The Odyssey In IMAX?

You have heavy-hitters like Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson. But, there are also familiar faces like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Corey Hawkins, Bill Irwin, Jon Bernthal, and Samantha Morton. No other characters have been announced and more surprises await!

The Odyssey reunites Damon with his collaborator Christopher Nolan. Oppenheimer was the last time audiences saw this team together. Damon was Leslie Groves in the 2023 blockbuster!. (People might forget, but The Martian star even had a small part in Interstellar. This working relationship goes back quite a ways!)

The Odyssey sets sail on July 17, 2026.
