The casting for Dune: Messiah has already begun with a heavyweight actor already lined up for the villain role. Deadline reported that Robert Pattinson was being eyed for a role in the third Dune film, and then THR reported that Pattinson was up for the role of Scytale from Frank Herbert’s books. There hasn’t been an offer made to Pattinson yet. Denis Villeneuve has a knack for getting the top talent in the world to his movies, including the cast of the first two Dune movies. They both star Timothy Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Jason Momoa, and Josh Brolin, among many others. The first Dune made $410 million globally, while Dune: Part 2 earned even more with $714.6 million.
Dune: Messiah takes up 12 years after the events of Dune, with Paul Atreides as Emperor and married to Princess Irulan, while maintaining a secret relationship with his concubine, Chani. The third Dune movie is set to film this summer ahead of a December 18th, 2026 release date. Villeneuve has said that this will be his final Dune film.
The universe’s most recent entry is prequel TV series Dune: Prophecy, from Lost writer-producer Alison Schapker and set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides. The series premiered on HBO and Max in November to critical acclaim.
