David Leitch is heading to the land of Xbox and Gears of War. The upcoming movie from Netflix is in negotiations with Leitch to direct. THR was first with the news.

Jon Spaihts is writing the script. Netflix has partnered with The Coalition Studio, the developers behind the game, on the movie. Leitch and his wife and producing partner Kelly McCormick will produce the feature via their 87North banner along with The Coalition.

The Gears of War video games are set on a planet on the brink of societal collapse when a new threat called the Locust take on humanity. Delta Squad, led by Marcus Fenix is charged with leading humanity’s last stand against the invaders. Netflix got the rights to the video game for a film in 2022 with huge ambitions for movies, TV, and more. They hope to start off a franchise with this movie.

There’s no details on who would star in the film or when it would release.

David Leitch comes from the world of stunt performers and got his big break co-directing John Wick. He’s gone on to direct movies like The Fall Guy, Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and has How To Rob A Bank on tap with Amazon MGM Studios.
