MovieFone is making a comeback. The brand that defined moviegoing in the 90s is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year. They’re making two big announcements:
- “Moviefone TV” – Extends the legacy digital movie brand to nationally syndicated broadcast television as a weekly TV series premiering this fall, available in major U.S. TV markets. While Moviefone’s original video content is also available online, in cinema and in social media — Moviefone TV will bring fans exclusive entertainment news, celebrity interviews, and must-see movie and TV/streaming recommendations to broadcast television. The TV series will feature on-camera reporters, movie & TV stars as well as social media influencers.
- A relaunch of the Moviefone mobile app– Launching in early May in private Beta, with plans to be available to the public in all major app stores this summer, the new Moviefone app brings the magic of movies, television, and streaming directly to users. It explores the world of entertainment from script to screen, offering a unique mix of original video content, behind-the-screen features, reviews, highlights, entertainment news, showtimes, ticketing, and more. Designed to help users find it. watch it., the app makes discovering what to watch – and where to watch it – simpler than ever, whether in theaters, on-demand, or across top streaming platforms.
“Moviefone TV” will follow in the footsteps of O’Neal’s Emmy-nominated TV franchise “Made in Hollywood”, which is in its 20th broadcast season in over 94% of U.S. households. Like the popular moviefone.com website, the mobile app will reflect the content discovery, theater ticketing, original video content and entertainment news that have driven the recent growth.
Additionally, Moviefone continues to offer its advertisers and agency partners access to the most passionate moviegoers with its “Made In Hollywood powered by Moviefone” video content via Screenvision Media’s Front + Center pre show on 14,000 theatre screens nationwide. And each month, the behind-the-scenes video content generates millions of video views across Moviefone Media’s platforms including television, streaming, web, mobile, and social. It’s a unique 360-degree movie lover ecosystem.
Here’s what Moviefone COO & President Rahsan-Rahsan Lindsay had to say about the announcements.
“From day one, Moviefone has been a trusted source for discovering great entertainment. With our new Moviefone TV show and app relaunch, we’re not just reflecting today’s viewing habits — we’re shaping the future of how audiences find and watch content,”
Here’s what Moviefone CEO Cleveland O’Neal III had to say about the launch:
“While Gen Xers and older Millennials know Moviefone from that voice, the Seinfeld episode and famous phone number, today’s Moviefone is digital-first and forward-looking, Our average user is now 31 years old, and approximately 80% of our digital audience is between 18-44, with a strong male skew.”
