Iron Maiden kicked off their opening night of the Run For Your Lives World Tour in Budapest tonight. The opening night saw them play songs off their first nine albums, from Iron Maiden to Fear of the Dark. The tour marks a couple of celebratory occasions for the band. One is the 50th anniversary and the other is a new drummer coming in for Nicko McBrain, who had to step down as a touring drummer after some health complications. The new drummer, Simon Dawson, is getting thrown straight into the fire on this tour.

To kick off the show they started like they always do, with a tape of the UFO classic “Doctor Doctor”. That transitioned into another tape of “The Ides Of March” off Killers. That finally led to the first song of the night, “Murders In The Rue Morgue”, also off Killers. That pairing was the first time since 2005 that they’d played those songs live.

The setlist data comes from our friends at Setlist.fm.

That’s a pretty insane setlist, especially if you haven’t seen the band on some of their recent tours. Lots of classic songs, some deeper cuts like “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son”, and “The Clairvoyant”. Fans of No Prayer For The Dying and Fear Of The Dark will surely be disappointed that there was only one song from both of those albums combined. It was a career-spanning setlist though. One that old diehard fans can be satisfied with and one that newcomers can enjoy.

Overall, it looks like the band even updated their stage setup with a massive video wall showing off CG versions of Eddie in the various lands and worlds he’s visited throughout their album art. By all accounts, Simon Dawson was also a monster behind the drumkit, making previous Iron Maiden drummers Nicko McBrain and Clive Burr proud.
