Today is New Comic Book Day, so that means new comic book reviews. This week, we get our second issue of the new Intergalactic action epic, Blood & Thunder. Created by writer Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve), artist E.J. Su (Tech Jacket), colorist MSassyK (Gotham Academy), letterer Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS), and co-creator Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead, Void Rivals); Blood & Thunder #2 continues the story of bounty hunting team of Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe and her cantankerous talking gun, Thunder. They just got their next assignment, but taking in The Prisoner from Cell Block X won’t be easy. You can check out my non-spoiler review below.

Blood & Thunder #2
Set in a far future where Earth has integrated alien species into a new society, Blood & Thunder plays by a whole new set of rules…and a whole load of new crimes to solve.
Bounty hunter Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe and her cantankerous talking gun, Thunder, are the best there is at bringing in the bad guys. However, when the galaxy’s most dangerous criminal breaks out of prison, Blood’s hunt delivers her down a path that will unlock secrets about her past, present, and future… and that’s when things get REALLY BAD.
Blood & Thunder #2 – My Review
Like always, thank you for checking out another one of my Nerdy Vet reviews. For those not familiar with my reviews, I like to follow what I call the three Ss: Simple, Short, and Spoiler-Free. Before we get into this review, I would like to thank Skybound for sending an advance copy of Blood & Thunder #2 to review.
Blood & Thunder #2 picks up the story right after Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe and her gun Thunder finished up their last job. But before we get into the next one, we get a flashback featuring Blood’s father and his police team. Here we get some more answers about Blood’s past. But before we get them all, her flashback is interrupted by the chief, who needed her help badly to catch the Prisoner from Cell Block X who escaped. But as the issue finishes, you will see it won’t be an easy task.

The creative art team once again kept the good work flowing. Artist E.J. Su (Tech Jacket), colorist MSassyK (Gotham Academy), and letterer Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS) brought the story to life with their amazing work on every page. The art and colors brought out the feelings and action on each page, making the story even better. Also, the text was perfect. What I mean by that is it was easy to read and follow.
Blood & Thunder #2 did start a little slow for me. Also, I am not a huge fan of continued flashbacks throughout a series, but writer Benito Cereno made it work. By the end of the issue, the blood-soaked action picked up and once again left me wanting more. You know, Blood and Thunder are going to have a huge challenge taking down this villain. I can’t wait to check out the next issue in this series.
