Ever since 2020, remote work has been at an all-time high. People are staring at computer screens all day and all night. Even if you’re not working in front of a screen, gaming is also one of the biggest hobbies out there. Protecting your eyes from blue light emitted from screens is paramount. If you wake up with tired eyes, get migraines, or just feel a bit of fatigue in your eyes, blue light blocking glasses are a necessity. Luckily for all of us, the market for glasses like that has exploded with plenty of options for people to enjoy. They range from glasses that have yellow lenses all the way to clear lenses that still block a good amount of that blue light. Gunnar has put out a new frame of glasses called Loop.

The Loop glasses aren’t shaped like your normal blue light glasses. They’re not marketed as GAM3R glasses either. These are high-quality, nice-looking frames. They have a round shape and metal hinges that go around 180-degrees to fit any size head. Here’s the official description from Gunnar.

Inspired by our computer programming roots, Loop is essential for enhancing productivity and superior style. These intellectual round frames are made from precision-engineered polymer with stainless steel temples for an impressive and trendy elegance. Equipped with 180-degree flexible hinges and patented GUNNAR lens technology, they promise a comfortable fit that complements any digital lifestyle.

The Good Of Gunnar Loop Glasses

The Loop glasses are built well, they feel sturdy in your hands. I’ve had other blue light blocking glasses that feel cheap and flimsy. These go on and stay on, without feeling like you’re wearing some knockoffs. I got sent the Amber lens tint glasses, and while it does give everything a yellow hue, it isn’t that noticeable after a while. I wouldn’t want to watch a movie with these on because they do change up the colors a bit, but for working, they do a great job.

That amber coloring is listed as great at blocking blue light (65%) and excellent with contrast. The clear ones are listed as fair at blocking blue light (35%) and fair with contrast. As someone who gets light-induced migraines, these glasses helped with that sensitivity to light, and I didn’t have one single migraine while wearing them during testing. The package also comes with a foldable glasses case, a drawstring cloth bag for the glasses, and a microfiber cloth for cleaning the lenses. For the price, you’re getting a hell of a package.

The Bad Of Gunnar Loop Glasses

I did notice that the lenses included with the non-prescription model of the Loop do have some strange sort of magnifying effect. It’s not super noticeable when you’re wearing them but if you grab and move the lenses over your eyes, it’s definitely apparent that there’s an ever-so-slight magnification. That does take a bit to get used to and does provide some sort of small eye strain with something that is supposed to protect your eyes from straining.

The Ugly Of Gunnar Loop Glasses

I have a big head, my hat size is huge. The Gunnar Loop glasses, even after wearing them for two weeks plus, didn’t fully adjust to my head. The hinges are really nice and sturdy, but that sturdiness means that they don’t adapt to your head size if you have a bigger one. I was left with dimples where the ends of the glasses lay on my head. That 180-degree hinge is a nice thing to advertise, but in reality, it doesn’t allow for enough small movement to form fit to your head. I know this isn’t an issue for other people with smaller craniums, but still. The hinges are powerful and keep the glasses in place, but might be a bit too stiff even after a couple of weeks of fiddling.

If you’re looking for glasses that don’t have gamer-coded anything emblazoned on them, the Gunnar Loop glasses are the top of the line. They’re stylish, sturdy, and they have plenty of options for lenses and prescriptions. However, that sturdiness comes with a cost of the glasses digging into your head if you do have a bigger head.
