Batman just got a new Robin. But there is a darkness about him that Batman is not ready for. Today, ROBIN & BATMAN: JASON TODD #1 was released at local comic shops, and you are going to want to pick this one up. Created by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Dustin Nguyen, this first issue is an action-packed and dark start for this three-issue limited series. I would like to thank DC for giving me an early look at this issue so I can share my thoughts with you.

ROBIN & BATMAN: JASON TODD #1
Batman has a new Robin, Jason Todd. Jason is a rash, impulsive and reckless kid with a troubled past, who Batman was certain could be molded into Gotham’s next protector. But can the Dark Knight save Jason Todd from the darkness within himself? And when a mysterious new villain, shrouded in white cloth and mystery, sets his sights on Jason, Batman realizes that even he has what it takes to train the anger and torment out of his new young ward.
ROBIN & BATMAN: JASON TODD #1 – My Review
First off, I would like to thank you for checking out my review of ROBIN & BATMAN: JASON TODD #1. For those unfamiliar with my reviews, I follow what I call the Three Ss: Simple, Short, and Spoiler-Free. This new three-issue series introduces us to Batman’s new Robin, Jason Todd. We learn very quickly that Batman is going to have his hands full, as there is a darkness within Robin that could jeopardize his training. But that’s not the only thing Batman has to worry about; we are also introduced to a new villain that just might make Robin’s training and life even harder. I won’t delve into the plot any further; this way, you can enjoy the story yourself.
What I love about this first issue is that the writer, Jeff Lemire, did an amazing job setting up this story. We got it all: action, back story, drama, and surprises. What was nice about all of this is how Lemire was able to mix all of it in without taking away from the story. To me, it was done perfectly, as I like a story with a lot of action, with other things mixed in, and that is just what we got.

Let’s talk about the art. Dustin Nguyen did an amazing job with the art throughout this issue. I loved the water paint look! It almost felt like each panel was getting finished right before you looked at it. The colors did a great job in helping tell the story. What stood out to me was how, on some panels, there were not a lot of details in the art, but it still brought a lot of feeling to that moment.
If you are a DC fan, you will want to check out ROBIN & BATMAN: JASON TODD #1. You get a great action-packed story that will keep you wanting more. I can not wait to read the next issue.
