HBO Max returns in a surprising move from Warner Bros. Discovery this morning. WBD’s Upfronts are underway in New York City. Max will be known as HBO Max again. The company is heralding the gains its made in the last few years. But, they’re also indicating an increased focus on HBO series and big budget movies. HBO Max returns and the entire entertainment landscape is going to have something to say.

Casey Bloys is the Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content. He had some more details about the upcoming change. The executive has been a huge champion of the HBO brand. Viewers associate the network with the best TV has to offer. It seems like this move makes a lot of sense.

Bloys began, “With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognized as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for.”

Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO and President offered his take on the move during the presentation. David Zaslav said, “The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming. Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”

WBD’s Upfront offered some insight from all corners of their business. JB Perrette, President and CEO of Streaming talked in front of the Madison Square Garden crowd. He added, “We will continue to focus on what makes us unique – not everything for everyone in a household, but something distinct and great for adults and families. It’s really not subjective, not even controversial – our programming just hits different.”
